Hands-on-History Camp Summer 2010

DOWNLOAD REGISTRATION FORM

Enrollment is limited to 10 children per session.

Have you ever wondered what it was like to live "back in the day" long before houses had electricity, running water, and modern appliances?  Come explore early American life through a week of hands-on activities and traditional crafts:  churn butter, weave on a loom, make a toy, play an old fashioned game, watch a blacksmith at work, make ice cream... and more!

Greater Sandy Spring was a breadbasket for the "new" city of Washington, DC, and a hotbed of innovations in farming, politics, social justice, and education. Campers learn through memorable hands-on exercises to understand how communities grow, change, and sustain themselves. They also are encouraged to imagine themselves as citizens in their own communities today.

     Session I: July 12th - July 16th

For children entering grades 1 and 2.

     Session II:  July 19th - July 23rd

For children entering grades 3, 4 and 5.

     Time:  9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Cost:  $210 per week (includes the cost of materials, which children keep and bring home)

Participants will receive individualized attention as they engage in unique learning opportunities amid our collection of 18th and 19th century artifacts of rural life.

For more information on camp events, please contact the Education Department.  Registration deadline is June 5, 2010.
